JR BLACK BEARS YOUTH HOCKEY

The Maryland Jr. Black Bears (JBB) are a youth hockey program operated by Nelson Hockey Association and based at Piney Orchard Ice Arena in Odenton, Maryland. The program emphasizes player development, competitive hockey, teamwork, sportsmanship, and creating an environment where players can develop both on and off the ice.

JBB Tier II teams compete in the Chesapeake Bay Hockey League (CBHL) and the Atlantic Hockey Federation (AHF), providing players with a combination of local and regional competition. We field Tier II teams from 8U through 18U, with teams classified at the AA, Upper A (UA), Lower A (LA), and B levels based on age division and competitive placement.

JBB Developmental Hockey provides newer and developing players with the opportunity to build their skills while experiencing all the benefits of being part of a team. Players practice regularly with their team and participate in games against other local hockey programs, but do not compete in a formal league.

Developmental teams are designed for players who are still building the skating, hockey skills, and game experience needed for Tier II competition. The focus is on skill development, confidence, teamwork, and preparing players to progress to Tier II hockey when they are ready.
